4. Daiquiri

Moving on to more classic rum cocktails recipes, this is a drink that is widely accepted to have been crafted first in the little town of Daiquiri, Cuba.

What you need: 1 and 1/2 oz. light rum, 3/4 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice, 1/4 oz. sugar or sugar syrup

To prepare: Mix all ingredients together in a shaker filled with crushed ice. Empty contents into a glass filled with ice.

Another well-loved rum-based cocktail that traces its roots in Cuba —this time in Havana — is mojito. Like the daiquiri, Mojito has branched out into different varieties. Here’s a basic recipe.

What you need: 1 and 1/2 oz. light rum (or, just go ahead and turn this into a spiced rum cocktail), 3/4 oz. simple syrup, 4 lime wedges, 1 and 1/2 oz. club soda, slapped mint leaves

To prepare: place lime wedges, mint leaves and simple syrup. Muddle the ingredients. Add rock ice, followed by rum then club soda. Top with fresh lime wedge and mint leaves.

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, this summer drink’s alcoholic vibe is just as hot and rhythmic as its birthplace.

What you need: 2 oz. rum (claimed to be the best rums for this cocktail are Bacardi Silver and Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum), 2 oz. coconut cream, and 6 oz. fresh pineapple juice

To prepare: Blend all ingredients with crushed ice. Empty the contents to a glass. Garnish with sliced pineapples.
